TNSR 22.02 Now Available
In case you missed our blog or press release, our latest version of TNSR® software, Release 22.02, is now available. This is the first release on Ubuntu, as Red Hat has halted updates for CentOS 8. More information about TNSR CentOS to Ubuntu transition can be found on this FAQ page.
In addition to the Ubuntu transition, Release 22.02 provides significant updates to the product’s command line interface, network interface management capabilities, NAT, virtual routing and forwarding (VRF), and overall system manageability.
Of special note, a configuration rollback timer - which allows the system configuration to easily revert to a previous configuration - has been added.
Do you have key workloads moving to the cloud? Are business locations suffering from drinking through a straw? Let TNSR software supercharge your site-to-site VPN needs. The rise in worker mobility, distributed offices, and complex multi-cloud hosting of business applications is escalating organizations’ reliance on encryption. This puts computational strain on traditional VPN solutions, especially as bandwidth needs evolve from 1 to 10 to 40 Gbps or more.
Traditional router/VPN appliances buckle under the load - particularly when the packet traffic shifts towards IMIX. TNSR software shines at high-performance site-to-site IPsec, especially when compared to traditional solutions underpinned by kernel-based, single packet-at-a-time processing approaches.
For more TNSR use cases, videos, and datasheets, please visit our TNSR resource page.
The Netgate Software Academy contains a large library of instructional videos to help you with pfSense Plus and TNSR software use. In this short instructional video, we will walk you through the process of configuring an interface through the TNSR CLI.
Last year we announced pfSense Plus, and that we would make it available for non-Netgate hardware. pfSense Plus Release 22.01 accomplishes the latter goal. pfSense Plus software is now available under both a no-charge Home or Lab evaluation license, as well as a paid commercial license.
pfSense Plus release 22.01 and pfSense CE 2.6.0 deliver numerous key improvements, including switching to ZFS as the default filesystem for new installations. In addition to the ZFS default, there are also new monitoring widgets, updates to WireGuard, enhancements to IPsec stability and performance, and nearly 100 other improvements and bug fixes.
Migrating from pfSense CE to pfSense Plus software
pfSense CE 2.6.0 delivers on a major community request - the ability to upgrade pfSense CE software instances running on 3rd party hardware to pfSense Plus software. Below are five pfSense Plus software subscription options available through our store:
To migrate, start by updating your current pfSense CE software instance to pfSense CE 2.6 software. Then select your preferred pfSense Plus software subscription. We recommend you visit our pfSense+ subscription page for a convenient comparison of the five options. As well, the migration process is outlined in detail here in our documentation.
For more information about the pfSense CE to pfSense Plus software upgrade process read our blog post by clicking the button below or visiting our FAQ.

Netgate Tech Tip of the Month: Connecting to the WebGUI
A site-to-site IPsec tunnel interconnects two networks as if they were directly connected by a router. Systems at Site A can reach servers or other systems at Site B, and vice versa. This traffic may also be regulated via firewall rules, as with any other network interface. If more than one client will be connecting to another site from the same controlled location, a site-to-site tunnel will likely be more efficient, not to mention more convenient and easier to support.
With a site-to-site tunnel, the systems on either network need not have any knowledge that a VPN exists. No client software is needed, and all of the tunnel work is handled by the tunnel endpoints. This is also a good solution for devices that have network support but do not handle VPN connections such as printers, cameras, HVAC systems, and other embedded hardware.
Our extensive online documentation is available to help you through this and many other challenges.
